Hi, I'm Barbara Windtner

I'm a writer, director and producer of independent as well as commissioned films and musicals. I also teach dance for children and adults. I live and work in Vienna, and enjoy collaborations with other artists around the globe.

I was born in 1980 in Steyr, Upper Austria, studied theater, film and media studies at the Universities of Vienna, Austria, Salamanca, Spain and Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and worked within different TV productions for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). From 2008 to 2013 I lived and studied film in Buenos Aires/Argentina, co-founded the directors' collective Onírico films and filmed my first feature length documentary 'Searching for Isolde' which opened the Crossing Europe International Film festival 2015.

In recent years I became a board member of the ADA - Austrian Directors' Association www.ada-directors.com, the Austrian Filmmakers' Association and the Federation of European Film Directors. We aim to advance rights and working conditions of audiovisual authors, organize workshops and monthly screenings.

In 2015 I did a degree in dance pedagogy and since then I am working as a director and dance teacher as well as for the project Kids in Motion.

Among the funding institutions of my films and musicals are:
